This is a tough time in our country. The economy is making life difficult for most of us. If you spent your hard-earned money on my book, I want you to know that it means a lot to me, especially in this economic climate. However, I've always felt that one of the best ways to get the most out of life is to give to others. No matter how hard your life is, you can always find someone who is worse off than you are. We weren't put on this planet to horde as much as possible for ourselves. We were put here to help others, and any way you can do that, you will enhance someone else's life as well as your own. I have found in my own life that the more I give to and help others, the more I have. It's called the Law of Abundance, and it really works.
My two favorite charities are PLAN, which is a program that sponsors children in underdeveloped countries who live in abject poverty, and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN, which cares for children with cancer. I'm not saying that my charities are better than the other charities out there; there are so many good charities, and whichever one(s) you choose to support, you should be proud of that. If you don't give to charity, I'm urging you to do so. What you give is not as important as the fact that you're giving. We don't all have millions of dollars of disposable income (I know I don't), but we can all do something, even it's just to volunteer our time. If we all do that, how much better would the world be?

This is a charity started by my good friend Jim Davidson down in Conway, Arkansas. Jim is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, a published author, and a great man. Jim wanted to address illiteracy, and he started a charity that builds oak bookcases for young, underprivileged children and fills them with books for the kids to read. If you've read my book, you know that I promote reading every chance I get. However, Jim has taken it even further and is getting books to kids at an early age so that they will embrace reading for the rest of their lives. In the time I have known Jim, I have found him to be the kind of man who gets things done regardless of the obstacles he faces, and this charity is a wonderful example of that.
My publisher, a company called Small Dogma based in Lakeland, Florida, is a unique entity in the publishing world. Headed by Matt Poricelli, Small Dogma publishes books that inspire, challenge, and enlighten readers. They also contribute 50 cents from every book they sell to feeding children in third-world countries through an organization called Feed the Children. Believe it or not, a child dies every three seconds from hunger or a poverty-related disease. If you'd like to contribute to this very worthwhile charity, you can do so at:
